PUNE: The Hadapsar police on Sunday arrested two men and booked their accomplice for attacking two recovery agents of the AU Small Finance Bank with sharp weapons and robbing them of Rs 70,000.
The incident occurred outside the Mantri market on Sunday at 3pm. The agents — 28-year-old Akash Bharguje and Rahul Pagade — suffered head, hands and back injuries. Bharguje is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Pagade was discharged earlier.
“My colleague and I got a call from a customer Prakash Pawar (30). He told us to collect the monthly instalment of Rs5,256 against a car loan from his residence,” said Bharguje.
“I kept the cash that Pawar gave me in my pocket. But he immediately snatched it back. Then he called his friends Swapnil Dhotre (20) and another accomplice, who reached in no time and attacked us with sickles and sticks,” he added.
Bharguje said, “We could not retaliate because the trio was armed. They snatched Rs61,000 collected from customers as well as Rs4,000 and Rs7,000, which belonged to my colleague and me, as well as a receipt book. We left our motorcycles and rushed to the nearby Hadapsar police post. The police referred us to the Sassoon hospital to seek treatment.”
“I was later admitted to a private hospital and from there I registered an FIR. They had also threatened to kill us,” he added.
Senior inspector Sunil Tambe of the Hadapsar police station said: “We have arrested the duo under sections 394 (robbery) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC. We have launched a hunt to trace the third suspect.”
