PATNA: Police on Tuesday said two step-sons of a private B.Ed college owner, Madhuri Kumari (32), were prime suspects in the Monday evening shootout during which she had sustained gunshot injury on one of her shoulders. The woman was returning to her residence at Boring Road in a chauffeur-driven car from the college owned by her at Janipur when two bike-borne miscreants opened fire targeting her and fled from the spot.
The incident took place near Bhusaila village under Phulwarisharif police station area in the city. One empty cartridge was also recovered from the crime scene by police.
Phulwarisharif SDPO Ramakant Prasad said Madhuri named Mohammad Tarique (35) and Mohammad Shakeel alias Sunny (28), both her step-sons, as prime accused in the FIR lodged with Phulwarisharif police station after the incident.
“Apart from the duo, their other family members were also made accused,” he said, adding, both step-sons were evading arrest and poperty dispute was main reason behind the attack.
Prasad said Madhuri, a few years back, got married to one Akil Haider who is an employee of Bihar Staff Selection Commission (BSSC).
“At the time of marriage, Akil lied to Madhuri that his first wife had died while she was alive and lived with her two sons – Tarique and Shakeel - and a daughter in Samanpura locality under Shashtri Nagar police station area,” he said. Prasad said Madhuri was earlier married to Mithilesh Kumar who had died five years ago.
The SDPO said that during police investigation, it surfaced that Akil ran at least two B.Ed colleges including one at Janipur.
“The college was earlier run by Akil’s first wife but after he married Madhuri, she started running it while earlier she was working there as a teacher,” he said.
Prasad said investigations also indicate it was Tarique and one of his friends on bike who had opened fire on Madhuri.
“Akil was slowly giving ownership of properties to Madhuri and was living with her as well. Madhuri was once thrashed by Akil’s first wife and her family members six months back at Samanpura after which she had lodged an FIR with Shashtri Nagar police station,’’ he said, adding, Akil’s second marriage and running of colleges were violations of service code.
