Lucknow RTO to e-auction 'fancy' registration numbers

LUCKNOW: The residents of Lucknow will have an opportunity to bid for the fancy registration number of their choice for their vehicle. On Thursday, January 24, RTO Lucknow will start e-auctioning the fancy registration numbers for the first time on the transport department's website (
https://parivahan.gov.in).
The online bidding for 346 fancy numbers will start at 10am for the new vehicle series UP32KL and continue for seven days. It might be extended for another week if required.
"It will be a pilot project in Lucknow. The response we get will help department decide on how to roll out the new system in other RTOs," said ARTO, administration, Lucknow, Raghvendra Singh. Once the e-auction is over remaining numbers will be open for online booking on first come, first serve basis.
A bidder needs to first register and pay one-third cost of his chosen number as fee. Those who have vehicles registered under their names can only participate. It is also must to have an email and a mobile number registered in your name.
The four series of fancy numbers that will be e-auctioned consist of 40 ‘most attractive’ numbers priced at Rs 15,000 each, 92 ‘most important’ numbers available for Rs 7,000 each, 104 ‘attractive’ numbers sold at Rs 6,000 each and and 110 ‘important’ numbers that can be bought for Rs 3,000 each.
