Vadodara: The special operations group (SOG) has arrested a notary and a stamp vendor for doing bogus notary and signatures on hundreds of documents in the city.

SOG sleuths said that they had received information that a couple running a typing centre in Raopura was doing signatures and stamps on behalf of a notary identified as Bipin Patel.

“Bakula Patel, who is a stamp vendor, used to sit in a typing centre operated by her husband Ashish Patel in the city. She used to sell the stamp papers to her customers and also notarized the documents in the name of Bipin Patel who is a notary,” said H M Chauhan, police inspector, SOG.

Chauhan said that Bipin had asked Bakula to notarize documents on his behalf and used to charge Rs 78 per notary she did. The couple had notarized about 500 such documents in last six months.

“Doing notary on any other person’s behalf is a crime. Bipin used to earn money by asking Bakula and Ashish to notarize documents on his behalf. We have seized 31 rubber stamps from the spot along with three mobile phones,” Chauhan added.
