Odisha: 10 killed as mini-truck plunges into gorge

BERHAMPUR: At least 10 people, including three women, were killed when a mini-truck-turned-turtle at Poiguda ghat under Brahmanigaon police station in Odisha's Kandhamal district on Tuesday.


Another 20 people sustained injuries in the mishap. The vehicle, carrying around 40 people, was going to Brahmanigaon to attend a function at the church, when the accident occurred. The accident happened just two km away from its destination.


While seven persons died on the spot, three others succumbed to the injuries on their way to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, sources said.


Police suspect the vehicle overturned because the driver lost control while negotiating a sharp turn in the hilly terrain.
