A 25-member delegation from the National Green Tribunal (NGT) will arrive in Kochi on Wednesday to assess the urban waste management mechanism of the city.
The team, which is expected to reach here in the evening, is likely to visit the waste management facility of the civic body at Brahmapuram on Thursday.
The visiting delegation will be looking into the progress of the waste management measures since the October 2018 NGT order, which slapped a fine of ₹1 crore on the corporation. It was the release of the leachate from the waste to the river Kadamprayar that invited the wrath of the tribunal.
The local body has been busy sprucing up the city areas and arranging temporary facilities to treat the leachate from the garbage at Brahmapuram. A mobile treatment unit capable of processing 10,000 litres of waste water in one hour has been brought to the plant site.
The civic representatives will accompany the team to the plant site. The team will lave Kochi on Friday, said V. K. Minimol, chairperson of the Health Standing Committee of the corporation.
