No joggers at Gandhi Maidan from Jan 24 till Republic Day

PATNA: District magistrate Kumar Ravi on Monday reviewed the ongoing preparations and security arrangements at Gandhi Maidan for Republic Day. He asked the officials concerned to complete the works within the stipulated time frame.

The DM said the entry of morning walkers will remain prohibited inside the Maidan from January 24 till Republic Day parade on January 26. “The final rehearsal of the parade will take place on January 24 in the presence of Patna divisional commissioner Robert L Chongthu. Several contingents of CRPF, CISF, SSB, NDRF, SDRF, NCC, Bihar Military Police (BMP), Bihar police and home guard jawans will take part in the rehearsal,” he said.


Ravi instructed the civil surgeon to deploy at least 17 ambulances with doctors during the parade. He asked the executive officer of New Capital Circle of Patna Municipal Corporation to clean the Maidan keep the stray animals away for the celebrations. “Extra CCTV cameras have been installed at each gate of Gandhi Maidan for security reasons,” he said, adding that dog and bomb squads would remain deployed round the clock.


“Traffic police have made parking zones for visitors at AN Sinha Institute, SK Memorial Hall and Patna Collectorate. The stands for VVIP and guests have been made near the podium,” said Ravi. The DM said 16 departments would showcase their tableau at the Republic Day parade. They would enter the Maidan from gate number 1, in front of SK Memorial Hall.


“PHED officials have also been asked to install water ATMS and water coolers at various points in and around Gandhi Maidan,” he added.
