Nagpur: Municipal commissioner Abhijit Bangar has suspended senior health inspector Sunil Turkel for failing to ensure cleanliness in his Gandhibagh zone area which is dotted with commercial and residential localities. A departmental inquiry has also been initiated against Turkel and show cause notices issued to zonal officer (health) Suresh Khare and another inspector of the Gandhibagh zone.

NMC health department officials said recently Bangar was on a visit to Gandhiagh zone and found many localities littered with garbage. He expressed anguish over the lack of cleanliness in the zone. When questioned, Turkel failed to give a proper reply regarding the same, which prompted Bangar to enquire with the health department officials regarding Turkel’s performance. After a report from the department, Bangar directed additional commissioner Aziz Sheikh to suspend Turkel from his post.

Ahead of the Swachh Bharat survey scheduled to take place anytime this month, NMC has launched a massive cleanliness drive across the city and Bangar is visiting various localities to verify the same.

This is the second stringent action by Bangar since he joined in November 2018. Earlier, he had suspended health inspector of Nehru Nagar zone Madan Nagpure for not wearing GPS-enabled wrist watch during duty hours.
