CHENNAI: V K Sasikala's lawyer, A Ashokan, on Monday accused IPS officer D Roopa of defaming her intentionally and warned of legal action. "We will comment on Vinay Kumar committee's report only after we receive it," the advocate said.

He claimed Sasikala was entitled to wear her own clothes and not the prison uniform, according to the Karnataka prison manual, as she was serving simple imprisonment.

At a hurriedly convened press conference, the advocate said that Sasikala never went out of the prison in Bengaluru and the photographs and video footage of her moving around, along with J Ilavarasi, was of her going to meet visitors inside the prison. "The prison is under CCTV surveillance, which covers the main gate as well. The cameras would have captured it if she had gone out of the jail," he said. Sasikala's handbag, seen in the footage, held only legal documents given by the advocates, Ashokan added.
