Mahakumbha Mela at Triveni Sangama to begin on Feb 17
tnn | Jan 22, 2019, 22:59 ISTMysuru: DC Abhiram G Sankar on Tuesday inspected arrangements at Triveni Sangama in T Narasipura taluk where the three-day 11th Mahakumbha Mela will start on February 17. Lakhs of devotees from across the country are expected the Mela.
Speaking after inspecting the place and conducting meeting with officials, Sankar said that rubber boats will be arranged to ferry devotees between Sri Gunjanarashimaswamy Temple and Sri Agastheshwaraswamy Temple on Cauvery River.
“As hardly a few days are remaining for the mega cultural and religious event, arrangements have been taken up on war footing to facilitate the devotees who come in large number to the holy place. As devotees take the holy bath at the Triveni Sangama, the confluence of Cauvery, Kapila and Anthara Gange, cleanliness has been taken at the place,” he said.
Sankar also said the chief minister H D Kumaraswamy will hold a preliminary meeting on Kumbha Mela in Bengaluru on January 23. “We will brief the CM about the works taken up for the Kumbha Mela,” he said.
Police inspector M R Lava said that vehicle parking centres have been arranged along the roads connecting Kollegal, Nanjangud, Mysuru, Bannur and other places. Only vehicles ferrying VIPs and religious leaders will be allowed to reach the place. Other vehicles had to be parked at the parking centres. GP member M Nanjundaswamy, executive officer Nanjesh and PWD executive officer R Vinaykumar were present.
