SURAT: Kadam Doshi was already feeling suffocated as he had to bribe government officials to get files of his company cleared. But push came to shove on the day when he had to bribe five officers in one single day.
The 25-year-old chartered account did not think twice and decided to renounce the world by becoming a monk. Son of a diamond businessman, Kadam will become a Jain monk by taking diksha in presence of his guru and hundreds of devotees on February 10.
"While working with a private company, I had to get files cleared from government offices in the city. I was told to pay bribes to the officers. One day, I had to pay bribe to five different officers. I was extremely upset with this and wondered what was the use of education if I had to only resort to such illegal practices," Kadam told TOI on Monday.
Kadam, who earlier aspired to work with top Indian corporates, suddenly decided to become a monk on the day he was told to give bribe five times in a day.
"I studied hard with a dream to help the society and improve the system. But after a few months of practising as CA in a private firm, I realized that after soon I will also have to do resort to these wrong practices. Hence, I decided to take a path away from all the wrongs," he said.
Kadam Doshi’s cousin sister will also become sadhvi
Kadam Doshi was earning Rs 6 lakh per annum when he quit the job. His father Prabhu runs a diamond business which has an annual turnover of nearly Rs 1.5 crore. Scoring nearly 90% in his class XII, Kadam completed his CA in 2014.
On the same day, his elder cousin sister Vidisha Doshi, 28, will also become a nun. Her father Ramnik runs a grocery store in Adesar village in Kutch. Vidisha quit studies after class XII as she got more engaged in religious rituals.
“I was a believer in basic fundamentals of Jainism since early age, but had no plans to become a monk. I even had a girlfriend and planned a life like any other common person. But after practising as CA for over a year, I decided to start a search for real happiness, which I believe is is in monkhood,” he added.
Kadam said he felt the real happiness and awakening when he did dhyan sadhna (meditation) for 47 days at a stretch, which is mandatory for those wanting to attain monkhood.
