Gun Rights Return to the Supreme Court
The Justices agree to hear a challenge to New York City’s limits.
The Supreme Court has notably refused to hear major gun-rights cases since its landmark decisions in Heller and McDonald that the Second Amendment includes an individual right to bear arms. That changed Tuesday when the Court agreed to hear a challenge to a highly restrictive New York City ordinance.
New York makes it extremely difficult for residents to own a gun, granting very few licenses. But it goes further and bars even licensed gun-owners from carrying their firearms outside city limits.
