Police groping in dark over Rs 30 lakh theft from ATMs kiosks

PATNA: Patna police were still groping in dark in connection with the theft of Rs 30.54 lakh from four ATM kiosks at different locations in the state capital which were cut open using gas cutter within couple of hours on wee hours of January 16.
Rs 6.15 lakh was stolen from ATM kiosk of State Bank of India (SBI) located opposite Aryabhatt Knowledge University (AKU) near Mithapur bus stand by an unidentified gang after which it ripped open a Canara Bank ATM kiosk near Premchand Rangshala at Kadamkuan and stole Rs 10 lakh from it.

Later, it the ripped opened two more ATM kiosks of SBI at Shahganj at Sultanganj and at Ashok Rajpath from were Rs 10.79 lakh and Rs 3.6 lakh were stolen respectively.

The latest thefts of cash after cutting ATM kiosks using gas cutter took place exactly two months after similar incidents at Beur Mor and Saguna Mor.

Altogether Rs 41.97 lakh, including Rs 34.33 lakh and Rs 7.64 lakh from ATM kiosks of Union Bank of India and Canara Bank located at Beur Mor and Saguna Mor respectively, were looted in the wee hours of November 15. Police have failed to arrest even a single suspect till now involved in the older case too.


ATM kiosk were cut open in same fashion using gas cutter in the latest and November incident.


When asked, Patna SSP Garima Malik said that gang involved the latest incident was yet to be detected.


In reply to a query, she said that it was hard to tell at present if same gang is involved in the January and November incidents of not.
