Domestic air traffic rises 13% over Nov.

Domestic passenger traffic in December 2018 grew 12.91% compared with November 2018 as per data provided by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). In December, all the airlines flew a total of 126.93 lakh passengers compared with 112.42 lakh passengers in the previous month.

For the whole year (January to December 2018) the growth was 18.6%. All domestic airlines flew 1,389.76 lakh passengers as compared with 1,171.76 lakh passengers in the calendar year 2017.

In December, SpiceJet had the highest load factor of 92.7%, followed by IndiGo’s 88.9% and Air Asia’s 88.8%. Truejet had the lowest load factor of 80.3%.

“The passenger load factor increased due to the ongoing tourist season,” DGCA said.

The overall cancellation rate for all scheduled domestic airlines for December was 0.66%. While Air India had the maximum cancellations of flights (2.40%), the lowest cancellation was by Go Air (0.04%). Vistara had no cancellation in December. Weather was one of the major reasons for cancellation followed by technical problems.

During December 2018, a total of 803 passenger related complaints were received and most was from Air India and Jet Airways passengers.

In on time performance, GoAir was rated one (83%), followed by SpiceJet (77.9%) and Vistara (77.7%). Air India domestic was the last in on time performance (61.1%).
