MUMBAI: A stray dog was beaten to death after it vomited outside the accused’s door in a Vakola chawl last week. Vakola police have registered a first information report (FIR) against a homemaker under Indian Penal Code Section 489 for mischief by killing an animal.
Police said the offence was committed on January 13 at D’Mello Compound near Vakola Bridge, Santacruz (East).
Vandana Jadhav, another resident of the chawl told TOI: “Though Macho was a stray dog, everybody took care of him. He was my pet and I used to feed and bathe him. On the fateful day, I was seated outside my room with a friend at midnight when I saw Macho moving about in the locality.”
A few minutes later, Jadhav saw her neighbour Vidya Lodh running behind Macho with a washing bat and hitting him. When told to stop, she asked Jadhav whether the dog was her husband and said he had vomited outside her door. “Later, I found Macho crying and soon he began to vomit blood. I applied antiseptic on him and the next morning took him to Parel’s veterinary hospital,” said Jadhav. The veterinarian told her that Macho had suffered internal injuries and had little chance of survival. He died on January 16.
