Nagpur: Cracking the whip on controversial Maa Umiya Audyogik Sahakari Vasahat, the Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) has declared a school and 28 industries set up on the organization’s industrial layout unauthorized.
With this, the total number of unauthorized constructions has increased to over 13,000 in the Metro region.
The NMRDA South and East division had served notices under Section 53 of the Maharashtra Regional Town Planning (MRTP) Act to the school and industries in November and December last year. The school, being run by a well-known educational institution, and five industries are situated in Kapsi (khurd) in East division, while the remaining 23 industries in Tarodi (khurd) fall under South division.
Among the 28 industries, some are well-known spices manufacturing companies, textile, godowns, dal, saw mills etc.
NMRDA officials told TOI that Maa Umiya Audyogik Sahakari Vasahat had not even sought approval for its layout, which is a basic process. “All the structures — school and the industries — came up without any building plan sanction. Of these, only the school had submitted an application seeking regularization. Necessary action will be taken in case the layout and building plans didn’t get approval from the NMRDA,” they said.
The industrial layout is spread in around 378 acre on both sides of Bhandara road. NMRDA officials added that chances of more industries coming up in the layout in unauthorized manner cannot be ruled out. “We will restart our survey in the layout soon,” they said.
Maa Umiya Audyogik Sahakari Vasahat was in news for the last three years for various reasons. The organization landed in controversies after constructing a temple without sanction and for encroaching Kapsi (khurd) Gram Panchayat’s land etc.
Of the total 13,000 unauthorized constructions in Metro region, owners of nearly 11,000 structures had submitted applications with the NMRDA for regularization. As the decision on the applications is pending, the agency has not issued notices to them.
The agency issued notices to 2,017 unauthorized constructions which had not applied for regularization. Highest number of notices — 659 — have been issued in South division followed by 492 in East division, 462 in West division and 404 in North division.
