Parliament Chalo protest on Jan 28
TNN | Jan 22, 2019, 07:17 ISTHubballi: Over 4,000 activists of All India United Trade Union Center (AITUC) Karnataka’s state unit will join the Parliament Chalo protest on January 28.
On Monday, AITUC state secretary K Somashekhar said, “For many years, we have been urging for fulfillment of various demands of Asha, anganwadi and mid-day meal employees, but none of them have been addressed by the Union government.”
“We had protested several times to press for the fulfillment of our demands, but they were of no use. Now we are expecting an announcement in the next budget and hence decided to hold a Parliament Chalo protest,” he added.
“The government should appoint scheme workers permanently. Scheme workers should be considered as labourers instead of social workers. Minimum salary of the labourers should be increased to Rs 21,000 per month. Scheme workers should be given facilities like PF, ESI, gratuity and DA. Retired workers should be given a pension of Rs 6,000,” he said.
AITUC convenor Gangadhar Badiger said more than 300 workers from Dharwad district will participate in the protest.
Bhuvana A, Annapurna Giriyappagoudar, Basamma Ghanti, Manjula Badiger, Girija Bhusanurmath and others were present.
