We need to eradicate exam fear: Expert
TNN | Jan 22, 2019, 23:05 ISTMysuru: A five-day training-cum-workshop on ‘Testing and Evaluation and Item Writing for Telugu Assistant Professors and Research Scholars of South India’ began at the National Testing Service-India (NTS-I) of Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL) on Monday.
Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the workshop, CIIL Linguistic Data Consortium for Indian Languages (LDC-IL) head L Ramamoorthy emphasized the need to develop analytical knowledge and critical thinking in the educational system.
“To achieve this, we have to come out of the traditional memory tests and develop systems to test higher order thinking process – analysis, synthesis and creation. Following a uniform syllabus and examination pattern will contribute to the qualitative improvement in education,” he said.
“We need to eradicate the fear of examination among students, from primary to research level. The NTS-I is focusing on this aspect of examinations and has come out with research findings so as to improve the quality of education,” he said.
CIIL deputy director P Perumalsamy briefed about the objectives of the workshop. “The NTS-I has designed its approach to examination reform keeping in mind the 3Ms--methods, material and manpower. NTS has been organizing training-cum-workshops to produce relevant materials in this interdisciplinary field of testing and evaluation and developing skills of teachers,” he said.
Thirty-six assistant professors and research scholars engaged in teaching and research of Telugu participated in the workshop.
