A teenager has been charged with attempted murder after a man was stabbed in the chest in Gympie on Tuesday morning.

A 17-year-old boy is accused of stabbing the 35-year-old man, who was known to him.

A police spokeswoman would not say if they pair were related.

Emergency crews responded to the alleged assault on Cootharaba Road around 8am.

The 35-year-old man was transported to hospital for treatment of a suspected punctured lung.
