However, to maintain that growth, ski resorts must continue to adapt, says Sophie Chick of Savills World Research.

“Successful ski resorts must invest in their infrastructure to improve access to resorts, encourage summer tourism and appeal to millennials who generally are less keen on winter holidays than their parents,” she says. However, they are interested in wellness, gyms, spas and outdoor sports.

In the Italian Dolomites the development of the first luxury wellness resort of the region is in progress at Lefay Resort & Spa Dolomiti in Pinzolo, a small urban town with a population of 3,500.

Close to the super-smart ski resort of Madonna di Campiglio, the hotel is proposed to be open this summer with 88 hotel suites and 23 freehold Residences of price £1.3 million together with some of the best spa and wellness European facilities.

Lefay focuses to capitalize on wide-ranging experience from its first resort on Lake Garda which opened in 2008, has been showered with impressive awards. Lefay is owned by the Leali family who has put in £58 million in their Dolomites project.

The Lefay Dolomiti spa is at the centre stage, comprising four floors and an enormous 53,820 square feet. There will be two heated pools, one indoor-outdoor, an impressive fitness centre, sauna and steam zone and an entire floor dedicated to treatment rooms.
