ALLAHABAD: With the number of kalpwasis flocking to the Kumbh-2019 venue continuing to swell, the Mela administration expects over 55 to 60 lakh devotees to take a dip in Sangam on Paush Poornima, to be observed on Monday.

The 49-day Kumbh-2019 commenced on Makar Sankranti (January 15) and since the the Mela administration and police have been busy with the arrangements for the second snan, which would be observed on Paush Poornima.

It is believed that taking a dip in Sangam can free one’s soul from the cycle of death and rebirth and a person can atone for all the bad ‘karma’ committed by him/her during a lifetime with the snan.

Meanwhile, Harayana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar is likely to attend the Kumbh-2019 on Monday evening and to take a holy dip in Sangam on Tuesday.

Monday also marks the auspicious Hindu month of Magh and kalpwasis camping on the Mela ground would bathe twice a day to earn ‘punya’. They would also be having ‘satvik’ meals just once a day.

Kalpwasis have set up camps at sector number 6, 13, 14 , 15 and 16 of the Mela ground.

SSP (Kumbh Mela) KP Singh, said, “We have made elaborate security arrangements by deploying teams of Anti-Terrorist Squad and paramilitary forces for the snan. Devotees continued to flock to the Mela ground till Sunday evening. The Mela administration is trying to settle kalpwasis on around 1,000 bigha of land.”

He said that the Mela administration expects around 10 lakh kalpwasis to camp for a month on the banks of Sangam between Paush Purnima and Maghi Purnima.

Meanwhile, the district traffic police department has enforced traffic restrictions in the wake of the heavy rush expected on city roads on Monday. No vehicles would be allowed to enter the Mela ground.

The Mela administration said that they would allow shuttle buses to ply to the venue only if the crowd is manageable.
