VIJAYAWADA: In a shocking incident, a class 10 student was allegedly raped by a private school director at Inkollu town here in Prakasam district. The incident took place before Sankranti holidays and came to light on late Sunday night after her parents lodged a complaint with the local police.
According to Inkollu police, the girl and her parents had first complained about sexual harassment against Veeraiah (42), the school director to the management before. However, when the management assured to take action against him, the 16-year-old girl mustered the courage to reveal that she was actually raped. Then the parents immediately registered an FIR with Inkollu police station under relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 and rape against Veeraiah and he was taken into custody.
Cops said that the girl had gone to her native place at Bhimavaram town in west Godavari district for Sankranti holidays and was depressed. She finally confessed it to her parents before she was scheduled to go back to her school. The victim's relatives and villagers protested against the school management claiming that they had turned a blind eye towards the incident.
