He murdered the woman on January 18; police form teams

More than 48 hours after a bouncer accused of rape shot dead the complainant at Khusboo Chowk here on January 18, after she refused to withdraw the case against him, the police are yet to arrest him.

“Accused Sandeep, who belongs to Tigaon in Faridabad, worked in a Gurugram bar. Based on this information, raids are being conducted at his possible hideouts. Four teams, including a Crime Branch team, have been constituted to solve the case,” said Gurugram police spokesperson Subhash Boken.

The police are yet to identify Sandeep’s friend, who was with him at the time of the shooting.

“Only after Sandeep is arrested, the name and role of his friend will be ascertained. It is unclear whether the friend just happened to be present at the crime spot or was involved in it,” said Mr. Boken.

Live-in relationship

The 23-year-old woman, who worked at a bar in Delhi’s Hauz Khas, was shot five times around 6.30 a.m. after she refused to withdraw the rape case against Sandeep. Her teenage friend, who works in the same bar, is an eyewitness in the case.

The victim, who belonged to Karnal, became friends with Sandeep four years ago and the two fell for each other.

After being in a live-in relationship for more than two years, the woman learnt that Sandeep was already married and registered a rape case against him in November 2017.

Sandeep was arrested and let off on bail in June last year. A month later, they became friends once again and started living together. The couple also has a child from the relationship.

Sandeep had called the woman around 2 a.m. on January 18 and asked her to come to meet him in Gurugram. He shot her later.
