MANGALURU: The Mangaluru City police on Sunday arrested a person from Bengaluru for stealing a truck. The police recovered the vehicle in Mangaluru.
The accused is Mahesh K S, 36. He intended to sell the truck in Hubballi.
Bengaluru-based businessman Henjarappa Siddappa had hired Mahesh as a truck driver on January 6 and assigned him the task of transporting some commodities from Bengaluru to Mangaluru.
After acting as directed, Mahesh arrived at the Baikampady Industrial Area, here. He used the truck to transport a consignment of beer from Baikampady to Bagalkot and returned to Baikampady, after which he went incommunicado.
Suspecting him, Siddappa arrived in Mangaluru, and upon not obtaining any information of his whereabouts or the truck, he filed a complaint at the Panambur police station.
The police caught the truck near the NITK tollgate on Sunday.
According to the police, Mahesh had finalised a deal to sell off the truck in Hubballi, and was on his way there.
Of the four rear tyres, Mahesh had sold two, and was running the truck with the help of the remaining two tyres, police said. The vehicle has been handed back to Siddappa.
