Madan Kumar | TNN | Jan 21, 2019, 21:46 ISTPATNA: Two prominent Kushwaha leaders from Champaran region, including a former minister, on Monday joined the ruling JD(U), giving a political message that Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar still holds sway among the members of Kushwaha community.
Birendra Singh Kushwaha, who was the minister of state for education during the tenure of the RJD government from 2000 to 2004, and former RLSP's national youth president Ram Pukar Kushwaha joined the JD(U) along with hundreds of their supporters, in the presence of JD(U) state president Bashishtha Narain Singh at the JD(U) headquarters here.
Singh welcomed both the leaders in the party by offering them membership of the JD(U). He said their entry in the JD(U) would help to strengthen the organisation in Champaran region. JD(U) general secretary (headquarters) Navin Kumar Arya and its MLC Sanjay Kumar Singh alias Gandhiji also were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Ram Pukar said their joining showed that JD(U) national president Nitish Kumar is still an undisputed leader of ‘Luv-Kush’ combination in Bihar. He claimed around 90% voters from Kushwaha community are still with the JD(U).
Birendra Kushwaha said, Nitish would again emerge the most popular leader of NDA in Bihar after the Lok Sabha election and PM Narendra Modi would be PM for the second consecutive time.
Speaking on the occasion, JD(U) state president said his party would organise divisional level workers' conferences in February to galvanise its cadres ahead of the Lok Sabha election.
He said eight such meetings would be held and chief minister Nitish Kumar has been requested to spare time attend all the eight division-level meetings.
