Two get 12 years jail for raping minor cousin
TNN | Jan 22, 2019, 04:00 ISTVadodara: A sessions court here sentenced two persons to 12 years of imprisonment for raping their 13-year-old cousin sister at her home in Makarpura in December 2016.
The two convicts were arrested on December 20, 2016 – a day after the crime. According to case details, the girl was studying on the terrace of her house when the two reached there through the terrace of the adjacent house and raped her. She was studying in class VIII then. However, the girl’s mother saw them when she went to terrace after finishing her work.
On seeing the woman, the two jumped from terrace and fled. The girl’s mother then went to their house to confront them, but they had flatly denied the allegations. Later they registered a complaint of rape and violation of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at Makapura police station and the duo was arrested.
After completing the investigations, police filed chargesheet against them and they were tried in an additional sessions court. Assistant government pleader Ramsinh Chauhan said that the medical evidence and the testimony of the girl and her mother were important evidence that were upheld by the court.
The convicts were also fined of Rs 5,000 each and on failing to pay it there imprisonment will be extended by four months.
