The Hindu in association with Indian Oil Corporation organised Saksham Cyclothon in Davangere town on Sunday to create awareness among people on oil and gas conservation and lead a healthy life by exercising regularly. The event was inaugurated by Sri Nijagunanda Swami of Mundargi Tontadarya Mutt at Taralabalu Anubhava Mantapa here. In his address, the swamiji said that many people considered cycling as entertainment, but the fact is that cycling helps preserve nature for the future generations.

Giving details about the advantages of cycling, the swamiji said that cycling helps in protecting environment, provides good exercise and keeps one physically fit and saves a lot of money as cycling does not require any maintenance or fuel.

Every individual in society should practise cycling as it is advantageous in every way, he added.

MLA S.A. Ravindranath commended the efforts of The Hindu in creating awareness among the youth and people on the importance of cycling and preserving the environment for the future generations. He also advised students to practice cycling to keep themselves fit.

Indian Oil Corporation Chief Manager Srinivas Prasad gave details about “Saksham” and its efforts to create awareness among the younger generation on fuel consumption.

Manjunath, Mahantesh Agadi and Prakash Banakar were present.
