Taking potshots at the January 19 Opposition rally organised by the Trinamool Congress in Kolkata, Union Human Resources Development (HRD) minister Prakash Javadekar on Sunday stated that though the opposition came together against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, they do not have his alternative. "Considering the current situation in the country anarchy will prevail without Modi," Javadekar said.

Speaking to reporters in Pune he said, "The rally exposed the nervousness of the Opposition. They did not draft any manifesto or a common minimum programme but formed a panel on electronic voting machines. Therefore, it is very clear that they are already searching for an excuse for their anticipated defeat in the election."

He also claimed that the opposition parties do not have the leadership to challenge him. "The only aim of the opposition parties is to drag Modi out of power. However, they are incapable of presenting an alternative. Such is the condition in the country that if there is no Modi, there will be anarchy," he said.

The BJP leader also stated that the people of the country will be choosing between the strong government and weak government in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

"The country needs a stable government. The forthcoming election is going to be held on the question of whether the Indian public desires a strong government or a weak one. In the past, the public had suffered during the governments led by past Prime Ministers like Indrakumar Gujral and Chandrashekhar. They have seen the benefits of strong and policy-driven government under Narendra Modi. I am sure, they will again go for the stronger government in the upcoming elections," he said.

Javadekar also stated that the party is confident of getting more seats and more votes in the upcoming general elections. Reasoning his claim, the minister said, "We will significantly increase our tally in West Bengal, Odisha and the North-East."

As the party will be rolling out various campaigns ahead of the general elections. Javadekar said, "In one of the campaigns, we will be appealing BJP voters to hoist party's flag on top of their residences to show support for the party."
