Movie on KCR hits censor hurdle over Gandhis’ photo

HYDERABAD: Even before its release, 'Udyama Simham', purported to be based on the life of TRS president and Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, has hit a roadblock with censors asking its makers to snip a few scenes, especially those depicting Congress leaders.

Apart from capturing the Telangana movement spearheaded by KCR, the film may have a sub-plot on the politically-significant cash-forvote case, in which then TDP MLA A Revanth Reddy is an accused.

About 15 days ago, the movie was sent to the Censor Board for certification, but the censors returned the print asking the makers to snip a few scenes in which photographs

of Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and the late Rajiv Gandhi were used. Also, they recommended deletion of a scene in which Congress’ ‘kanduwa’ (scarf) was shown. The film house might send the edited version to the Censor Board on Monday for the mandatory certificate so that it can be released in February.

Originally, the movie — whose premise is based on KCR’s struggle for Telangana, TRS winning the 2014 election and the governance in the last five years — was slated to be released in November ahead of the assembly elections, but got delayed.

“Since it is a movie based on politics, Censor Board asked us not to use photographs of Sonia Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. We obliged,” director Alluri Krishnam Raju told TOI.

Natarajan playing KCR’s character

“We will send the movie to the censors again on Monday. We are hoping to release it on February 8,” producer Kalvakuntla Nageshwar Rao, a relative of KCR, said, adding, “KCR assured us that he will see the premiere.”

Natarajan is essaying the character based on KCR, while there are no popular stars in the cast. Perhaps, keeping in view the general elections, wherein KCR is striving for formation of Federal Front, a sequel for the yet-to-be released ‘Udyama Simham’ is also being planned. The sequel might be about the latest developments surrounding TRS, especially the sweeping victory in the recently-held held Assembly elections.
