What a catch! Bald eagle steals fisherman’s first fish of the day in incredible up-close video

- Seconds later, the eagle swooped down and made off with the perch
- The fish ended up flying off, but resulted in some great close-up eagle footage
A bald eagle ended up stealing a fisherman's first catch and it was all caught on camera.
The fresh fish was lying on the ice in Windham, Maine, while the angler continued to fish.
The sharp-eyed eagle had other ideas - and seeing the freshly caught meal ready for the taking, it was hard to resist.

The bird walked up to the a small perch and gave it a quick look, almost in disbelief that lunch was going to be so easy to come by.
Then, before anything else could possibly happen, the bird snatched the fish and flew off.
Nicholas Batchelder was ice fishing with some friends when the bald eagle swooped down and helped himself to a meal.

The eagle stared at the fish thinking that it had to be too good to be true

The bald eagle took a very close inspection at the catch before deciding to take off with it

The bird placed its huge talons around the fish before snatching it away
The eagle had been eyeing the fishing party from up above and was waiting for the right moment.
Batchelder set up his GoPro camera and set the perch out on the snow to encourage the eagle to come closer.
The three friends backed away from the fish, and the eagle flew down and made off with the fresh catch in its sharped hooked claws which did an excellent job of carrying slippery fish.
Batchelder was left with one less fish, but managed to capture some superb close-up footage of the theft.
