Monkey found deadnear Kaniyoor

A monkey was found dead near Kaniyoor in Puttur taluk and the carcass of another monkey was found in Attur Kemral area, near Kateel, in Mangaluru taluk in Dakshina Kannada on Sunday. Dakshina Kannada District Surveillance Officer Praveen Kumar said that the viscera of the monkey found dead in Kaniyoor has been sent for analysis to the Viral Diagnostic Laboratory in Shivamogga to ascertain for Kyasanur Forest Disease, if any.

The villagers burnt the carcass of the other monkey in Attur Kemral area after finding its skeletal remains scattered. The Health Department officials disinfected both the areas later.

He said that samples from the carcass of a monkey found dead near Koila in Puttur taluk last week have also been sent for analysis to Shivamogga. The results are awaited.

Dr. Kumar said that in two earlier cases, decomposed carcasses of two monkeys were found near Ujire and Belthangady. But samples could not be retrieved.
