Brother of notorious underworld hitman who was gunned down outside his home drives himself to hospital after being shot twice in ‘gang attack’

  • A man was shot multiple times and suffered gun wounds to shoulder and arm
  • He arrived at Bankstown Hospital in Sydney's south-west about 2.15am Monday
  • Slain underworld figure Hamad Assaad is believed to be his brother 
  • Crime scene established at possible shooting area Dalton Avenue, Condell Park  
  • NSW Police are in the process of questioning the man with gunshot wounds 

The man who drove himself to hospital after being shot twice is believed to be the brother of a slain underworld figure. 

Tarek Assaad reportedly suffered gunshot wounds in his arm and shoulder in what is believed to be a gang-related attack in Condell Park in Sydney's south-west in the early hours of Monday morning. 

Tarek, who later drove himself to Bankstown Hospital, is the older brother of late underworld figure Hamad Assaad, AAP reported.

Hamad, 29, was shot dead in the driveway of his Georges Hall home in October 2016.

He is believed to have been killed in a mistaken revenge attack after underworld kingpin Walid 'Wally' Ahmad, 41, was shot dead outside a cafe at a Bankstown shopping centre six months earlier.

Bankstown Police are investigating Monday morning's shooting in Condell Park and and have established a crime scene in Dalton Avenue.

'Investigations suggest the shooting took place at this location, a NSW Police statement said.

Police say they are unaware of the motive for the shooting at this stage.

A NSW Police spokesman told Daily Mail Australia that they're in the process of questioning the man who was injured.

'There is no change at the moment,' he said.

'We are in the process of talking to them to find out what happened.'
