PUNE: Army Institute of Technology's project titled Mosquito detector, counter and alerter, won the first prize at Chhatra Vishwakarma Awards 2018. AIT's award was in the "Any Other Rural Appropriate Technology" category and was conferred by Vice President of India, M Venkaiah Naidu on Monday in Delhi. The awards were jointly organised by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Engineering Council of India (ECI) and Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE).

The team was called Innovators' and comprised of Saurabh Singh and Nidhi Yadav, both from second year Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering. The competition was open for students of AICTE approved degree & diploma level technical institutions.

The device also helps the district administration to alert people in a particular area through various digital and non-digital platforms through an alert system. This technology can help health authorities at the village level fight diseases such as Malaria, Dengue fever, Chikungunya, Zika fever, Lymphatic filariasis (elephantiasis) & Japanese Encephalitis to name a few," said the official release from AIT.

The team was mentored by G R Patil, head of the Electronics and Telecommunication Department at AIT.
