BENGALURU: A team working for Apple Inc has lodged a police complaint against two shops for allegedly selling cellphone accessories with the fake logo of the multinational technology company.

Vijay Kumar, investigation officer with Griffin Intellectual Property Services Ltd which is into brand protection, found the logo being misused on substandard items. Chargers, batteries, USB cables, headphones, AirPods, cellphone covers and other accessories were sold by Prakash Telecom and I-Choice Telecom, located in the SP Road area. They shared the same godown. Police raided the godown located at I Cross and seized goods worth Rs 4 lakh.

Shop owners Praveen Singh, 22, and Dileep Kumar, 26, were arrested. They have been booked under the Copyright Act 1957.

The preliminary information on the fraud was collected by Griffin officials. “They go in the guise of customers and even bargain for goods. They buy such fake products with bills to build evidence before approaching us,” police added.
