NEW DELHI: Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation (ROSATOM), a leading global company in nuclear technologies and services and the main equipment supplier for India’s Tamil Nadu-based Kudankulam nuclear power plant, has announced scholarships in nuclear engineering for Indian students in order to “produce next-generation nuclear scientists”.

ROSATOM is one of the largest companies of the Russian Federation and largest taxpayers of the country. It is the largest electricity generating company in Russia producing 202.868 bln kWh of electricity in 2017 or 18.7% of the country’s total generation of electricity. Headquartered in Moscow, the company has the second biggest uranium reserves and holds 40% of the world’s enrichment market. It is also the world’s biggest builder of latest nuclear power stations.

ROSATOM South Asia CEO Andrey Shevlyakov says, “The goal of the scholarship is to support interest in nuclear research and capabilities among young Indian scientists and engineers, and contribute to solving some of the world’s most critical issues in the nearest future, allowing for the continent to be self-sufficient.”

Scholarships are available for students interested in studying nuclear energy-related fields in Russia and include tuition fees and free preparatory courses of Russian language. Students have access to subsidised accommodation, library funds and practical experience at Russian nuclear enterprises. Several study options are available at Russian universities specialising in nuclear engineering such as National Research Nuclear University MEPhI in Moscow and Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) in Siberia.

The deadline for the first round of applications closes on February 15. The registration is now opened on Russia Study website https://russia.study/en.
