Patriots advance to yet another Super Bowl

AP

For all the controversial calls. For all the potential on the other sideline, two things remain constant.

The Patriots have Bill Belichick, and they have Tom Brady.

That’s why they’re heading to yet another Super Bowl.

The one way to make sure Patrick Mahomes didn’t lead the Chiefs back again was to not let him have the chance, as the Patriots took the first possession of overtime and drove for a touchdown, with Rex Burkhead plowing in for the score and giving them a 37-31 win.

The Patriots will face the Rams in Super Bowl LIII in Atlanta in two weeks, for a shot at a sixth title between the best coach and quarterback in the game.

And that game will have to work to match this one.

The lead changed hands five times in the fourth quarter, as a game that was slow to start reached a frantic pace late.

The Patriots dominated the first half, pulling out to a 14-0 lead, and holding the high-powered Chiefs to 32 yards in the first 30 minutes. And that included a 42-yard pass to Tyreek Hill, which underscores the job the Patriots defense did.

The Chiefs did what they have done so often this season, getting hot on offense. Mahomes finished with three touchdowns in the second half, doing everything he could.

But for all the subplots we’ll talk about for the next few days (pick plays, Julian Edelman‘s thumbs, fourth down calls which didn’t work and then they did, the officiating, again), Brady stepped in to do what he has done so often.

After a penalty wiped out an interception, Brady hit Rob Gronkowski for a 25-yard completion, and then Rex Burkhead scored from 4 yards out on the following play for the lead.

It was an 84-second drive for what appeared to be a game-winning score. But that left 39 seconds for Mahomes, and he moved them quickly into position for a field goal and a chance for a coin flip.

But Brady didn’t give him another one, leading a 13-play, 75-yard march for the winner.

And a shot at even more history.

  1. The fact that both teams don’t get the ball in overtime in the NFL is absolute bull. Screw the Patriots. GO RAMS!!!!!!

  2. I didn’t give the Pats enough credit in the championship predictions thread. I had them by 3. Damn overtime rules!

  3. Congrats! Another superbowl that anyone outside of New England could give a damn about. Lets thank the officiating for ruining two deserving teams like kc and the saints from reaching the superbowl..

  4. ‪In a world where Kirk Cousins is paid $28,000,000 a year, Tom Brady should command $166,040,000 a year.‬

‪You could literally surround Brady with 52 first year players making the minimum of $480,000 and would still have a better chance to win a super bowl.‬

  5. Andy Reid got out coached again, your defense is gassed and you are sitting on 3 time outs. Major choke job.

  6. You know what I love the most about the Pats being back in the Super Bowl? The idiot media that had nothing better to do last off-season than make up drama about this team just got told what’s up!

  7. What a great game.

Well done KC, it is a shame someone has to lose a game like that. But I am happy for my team to go onto another Super Bowl.

  8. Anyone who thinks that Brady is not the GOAT is insane – this from a Giants fan. Dee Ford gets the dummy of the game award – his off sides cost KC a trip to the SB. Stew on that for then next 6 months.

  9. My gawd, this one almost killed me!!!!!!!

IN YOUR FACE, all you Brady haters!!!! He’s 41, he’s awesome, and he ain’t done by ANY stretch!!!!!

  10. Between the missed DPI in the Saints game and the phantom Roughing the Passer in this one, the NFL has proven the fix is in.

Also, the OT rules suck. Play the whole 15 or just give the coin toss winner the game.

  11. Great game, refs! Beautiful roughing the passer call on Tammy on a crucial drive. Brady got outplayed by a second year QB and threw two INTs, typical of his awful postseason play.

  12. Florio has been saying it for years: When a championship game is decides by a first-possession TD in overtime, then will the league change the OT rules to give each team at least one possession, at least in playoff games.
P.s. Why dont coaches like Andy Reid today or Dan Quinn in the SB a couple years ago use their timeouts in OT when their defense is in clear backpedal mode? Use your 3 timeouts one after another to give your D a rest and to regroup, like basketball coaches do when the opponent is on a run.

  13. God I hope he retires after this one. Begin and end with the rams. Go spend time with your family for Christ Sake. The guy has played a whole season worth of games in the post season.

  14. Seriously though. One of the best games I’ve ever seen. Chiefs are such a great team. Honestly i was impressed by that defense the TD drive notwithstanding.

Chin up Chiefs fans. You’ll get another shot very soon.

  15. Chiefs lost to the Pats, Chargers, Seahawks and Rams this year.

They were a good team, but not really the cream of the crop that some would have you believe.

  16. .
I can’t believe how that Chiefs defender DARED to touch brady!!!!
HOW DARE HE! Don’t you dare lay a finger on my tommies chest! ROUGHING THE PASSER!!!

  17. Great game, lived up to it’s billing! KC and Mahomes never gave up (even though a few of their fans actually left!!). Some duff calls by refs both ways, little between these teams. Like I said before the game, these are the two top AFC teams next year too, and until Brady retires.

  18. The Chiefs defense sucks. The only reason they had the number one seed is because their offense is great and with as bad as their defense is the offense needed to be great.

NOBODY CARES what people outside of NE think

    Brady 9 Sb. GOAT

  20. Brady wasn’t as sharp as he should have been but was locked in when it mattered. Run game was great and the defense did all they could. Bad calls on both sides like the phantom pi call against Jackson and the phantom roughing the passer call against Brady were irksome but didn’t directly lead to the result like the first game did. Brady needs to be better against the Rams, but this one was pretty sweet.

  21. Give props to New England. They took advantage of their opportunity: The chiefs scoring and leaving them 2:01 to score the game winner or at least tighten the game into OT. If the chiefs sit on the ball, Tom Brady has less time to work with.

    Again, congratulations New England.

  22. Normally I have called out the Patriots for cheating in the past but no more, the referees did EVERYTHING in their power to shaft the Patriots and carry the Chiefs into the Super Bowl. Most obvious and lopsided game I have ever seen in that regard. Congrats to the Patriots for playing the Chiefs AND the referees and still winning.

  23. What a great matchup…West Coast vs East Coast
What a poorly officiated game. The Roughing the passer on KC was horrid.

The NFL desperately needs to correct these.

  24. Why would anybody ever bet against Brady and the Pats? Was there ever even a doubt when the Pats won the coin flip that Brady would march them down the field for a TD?

  25. I’ve seen players in the neutral zone all year and never called….but today they call it and that decides the game. Unbelievable

It’s hard to get behind Jared Goff here. Goff is poor under pressure and one of these days a defensive coordinator is gonna have his guys jump routes at the hashmarks (Goff’s favorite target areas).

The smart money in AFC/NFC Championships goes on the home teams. But it looks like the Patriots and Rams have the advantage defensively and in the running game on offense. And that wins championships. So give me both of the dogs here.

    ——————–

Yep. That bozo needs to go.

  28. Today is the NFL’s worst nightmare .

The NFC Gets decided in OT due to an egregious blown call that can’t be changed because of a bad rule.

Then the AFC gets decided in OT without the likely league MVP touching the ball due to a bad rule.

  29. You will never see this in any sport again.

The team records are just mind blowing at this rate. Back in the early 90s the pats were a laughing stock. Never did I ever think I would see almost 20 years of just continued excellence.

    Just wow…

  30. Former Cheaters linebacker Ted Johnson, in an interview with USA TODAY in 2005:

    Cry some more PLEASE.

What did he do in the 4th and OT? Exactly, you have nothing

Oh and think about this all off season
The Patriots have won MORE SB since 2011 than you sorry Giants have won Playoff games.

  32. Best QB and coach combo in football history. Might be the best each too.

And I’m so tired of watching them win. Yawn.

  33. Dee Ford lines up correctly and the narrative is Brady throws three int’s and chief’s go to SB. Not a KC fan but would be soooo pissed if I was.

  34. If Tommy wins the SB this year, my guess is he retires and sails off into the sunset. Then Massachusetts secedes from the union and becomes a monarchy, declaring Brady king.

  35. Thank GOD that I don’t have to hear about how “great” Pat Mahomes is for the next 2 weeks. That is what would happen, the media wouldn’t bother with Jared Goff, but Mahones is a black QB, the media’s preferred type of QB.

  36. Chiefs fan … your time will come. Mahomes will have a chance to win 5 SBs of his own once Brady or Belichick retire. He is a beast. But it would help if he had better coaches.

  37. Win on a TD then game over. The way it should be.

Winning on a FG was a problem and it’s fixed. Leave it alone.

  38. Wow….. the WWE, um, I mean the NFL, makes the matchup that should make it the most profit. Not saying that the putrid KC defense deserved to win the game, but gee whiz, who didn’t see this coming?

They called it 1 time on BOTH teams. And it was the right call both times.

  40. Just give NE the trophy. Unbelievable refereeing today. Game-changing blown calls. How is it possible?

  41. I can’t root for the Rams and hear how McVay is a genius blah, blah, blah. Let the GOAT be the GOAT again. Might as well cement him on Olympus with the other greats like MJ and Ruth. Good luck Pats.

  45. Hate the Pats…….

…..but you have to tip your hat to Brady, McDaniels and Belichick, they are just the best ever. To have this level of success in an era where everything is set up to stop repeated success, the current Patriots dynasty is just incredible.

Those three 3rd and longs by Brady to drive down in OT to win it were just simply stone cold…….

  47. The Chiefs look like they will be back for years to come. Mahomes is the real deal. This could be a good step in his development.

Anyone else get the feeling the Patriots are going to clobber the Rams?

  48. I’m almost 40 and the Pats have been dominating the league since I was 20. Parity they say. Sure. The league profits more when a team dominates like this, due to most sports fans being of the bandwagoning “root for whoever wins” types. Just makes you wonder. LA + Pats sure = a happy NFL.

  49. It is too bad K.C. could not find a way to get Kelce and Hill the ball more often. It is also too bad Dee Ford lined up off sides on an INT that would have (99%) ended the game. The phantom face mask call was too—-nah, that was awful and unforgivable…most of all, it was too bad the Chiefs did not win the OT coin toss because Mahomes was in the zone just as much as Brady was and would have marched the team down the field….hang in their Coach Reid, that kid may take the Chiefs to a Super Bowl in the next couple of seasons(you need to improve the Defense though, especially the secondary!).

I’m not a fan of either team, but respect how hard they both played….good game…

You just wrote that a completely stupid in the neutral zone penalty cost KC the game.

How would those 2 interceptions/turnovers that Brady threw against the 29th ranked defense look had Dee Ford not been in the neutral zone… Still GOAT-like? Brady would have finished just like he did last year costing his team the Super Bowl vs the Eagles with a turnover (fumble).

  52. Sorry Patriot Hater after that DPI that let the Chiefs take the lead – the whining about the refs schtick – that dog don’t hunt tonight.

NO. The Defense is on the field as well. They just have to stop the opposing team from scoring a Touchdown. The rule is fine as is.

  56. Bad calls both way in this one. The roughing the passer call against KC was indeed bogus, but the non-call on the pick play on the KC touchdown was equally egregious, and some of the PI calls against the Pats were also bogus. Blaming this outcome on the refs is misguided. The refs did not hit Gronk and Edelman on 3rd and 10 on the winning drive.

  57. Rams vs pats? Yawn. Yet another Superbowl I won’t watch. I think I can check out of the NFL until belichick and Brady retire. Should rename the nfl the NPL national patriots league cuz they own that league. I think I’m officially sick of the nfl. I only watched half the championship games today.

  58. Coaches like Andy Reid are too close to the game in these scenarios. He should have known to go for the touchdown late, like he needed it to win. You’d think these coaches would learn that when playing the Patriots, you have to do the extraordinary to win, see Doug Pederson.

  59. In an offense heavy league, the NFL has no excuse preventing one team from getting the ball on offense in a playoff overtime.

  60. Suppose to watch my blood pressure games like this can’t have helped .9 SB is something that will never be topped and a win would tie all teams with 6 .Man oh man to be a sports fan in Boston sure is fun.

  61. Steelers Fan here, and no doubt about it, Brady and Belichek are the GOATs. No doubt in my mind that as soon as NE won the toss in OT, it was over.

    Two things of note though:
    1) without Dee Ford’s stupid lining up offsides, the game is over;
    2) can’t cry about the OT rule, it’s been in place forever. NE had nothing to do with that.

    Mahomes is outstanding.

  63. “The guy has played a whole season worth of games in the post season.”

Not even close believe tonight was his 40th post season game, so he’s played 2 1/2 season of post season !

    Absolutely insane isn’t it?

  64. “Andy Reid got out coached again, your defense is gassed and you are sitting on 3 time outs. Major choke job.”

Yep. One of those subtle things that nobody will remember but yet again another example of fatal flaws a supposedly great coach like Andy Reid has. Yes, he’s the QB whisperer. Yes, he can run a team from top to bottom and generally be a good coach. Problem is the little things will always haunt him like they did for 14 years in Philly.

As far as Dee Ford? Wow. Coming down to going to the Super Bowl for 1st time in 48 years and he can’t bother himself to make sure he’s lined up correctly. If he does what 99% of D-lineman do on every down plays during meaningless games throughout the year Kansas City is going to the big game. He won’t sleep well tonight.

  65. Whoever started this whole “both teams should touch the ball in OT” bs narrative should take their participation trophy and shove it. Its been sudden death forever. Whah.

  66. Boston sports fan infests the internet as evidenced by the fact anything pro-patriot gets upvoted a ton despite the fact most of the sports world hate the pats with a passion.

  67. I’m jealous of the pats, admitting that. I’m a falcons fan, happy the swamp people are not in it. I will probably not watch the Super Bowl this year, tired of seeing same team in it. Respect the hell out of pats, but not interested. Rams and Chiefs would’ve been very fun and interesting game. I wish the NFL really had parity. Good luck

I think the NFL would prefer a KC/Rams Super Bowl to be honest. Rematch of the historic regular season game. Dynamic young teams, people bored of seeing the Pats year after year. KC had the benefit of more questionable calls in this game than did the Pats, even though I agree that the roughing the passer call was a bad one. Can’t see anybody blaming the refs for this one.

  69. I had no skin the AFC title game today but the OT rules still need to be changed, especially given the favorable lean towards NFL offenses now. Even the offense statistics put up leaguewide this year bear that out.

Each team should have a possession. Period.

  70. Don’t worry LA fans . the NFL will somehow introduce new unplubished rules that will gift you 2 TD’s just like they did for the Eagles last year.

  71. Another dumb NFL spectacle. OT for a trip to the Super Bowl and one team doesn’t get a chance with the ball. Dumb, dumb, dumb. Not a fan of either team but does this make sense?

  79. Is there really any doubt who is the GOAT – and now dont start this bs about all the cheating and deflategate etc etc – the guy just plays football the way it needs to be played. Better than Montana, better than Manning, Elway, Young Brees, Favre,Marino, – simply the best. And he will unlikely be the hardest to pass. Different greats in different eras but some of them like Gretzky in hockey – will just never be passed.

  80. Welp, I doubted, and they proved me wrong. LA will be a tough out, but win or lose, getting to a Super Bowl is a tremendous accomplishment for this year’s team. Good game all in all, but the Pats weirdly should have won by 10 in regulation while still deserving to lose, so I don’t even know what to tho k right now. But tonight….WE DANCE!!!

  81. I got to see a replay of the bogus roughing-the-passer penalty. To be fair it looked like Edelman got mugged on the play.

  82. Isn’t there some kind of anti trust violation that can be brought against the Patriots to break Belichek and Brady up? I mean jesus, I respect the hell out of them, But isn’t enough enough? Might be great for The Patriots, But not exactly the vision Goodell had for league parody. And while the league is at it, They should check their referee’s heads for concussion with the botched calls in the Saints / Rams game.

  83. I think the Goat thing is dumb, but seriously that dude stands behind no one in the history of the game at his position. Crazy. If there’s one more Tom Brady game, and it wouldnt surprise me if he walks away in two week with one last Lombardi that’d be a heullva ride as I too was just in high school watching that crazy ending back in ’01 and in a few year I’ll be planning my kids high school.

  84. I can’t stand Andy Reid so I was happy to see the Patriots win… but I will say the NFL overtime rules blow. Don’t like the idea that a coin flip can determine a playoff game no matter who’s playing.

    still mad bro?

  87. Pretty bad officiating, with the roughing the passer phantom call. Also, they call PI on the Pats 3 or 4 times and ignore muggings of Patriots receivers. Not a great game by the officials at all.
Mahomes is the real deal, and I am guessing he will dominate the league going forward, he’s just crazy good and doesn’t see to do stupid things that will get him hurt. KC needs a good slot guy for sure.

Brady gets another crack at #6! And with the Rams on the schedule, the circle is complete.

To all the “both teams should get to touch the ball” thing, THEY BOTH DID. Just not in overtime. Don’t like that? DON’T GO TO OVERTIME.

  88. The refs are terrible, bad calls on both sides, each team can point to numerous bad calls, or missed calls that might have changed the outcome. That doesn’t mean the game is fixed, just ooorly officiated. If you really believe the games are fixed, why would you continue to watch? As for the OT rules, defense is part of the game. If you lose the toss, then your defense has to get a stop. Period. If you can’t stop the other team from driving 70 yards for a TD, I’d say you don’t really have anything to complain about. The Chiefs are great, Mahomes is great, they should play in several of these games, but man, the Patriots just keep coming, and Brady is the greatest winner in NFL history.

  97. One of the best.. If not THE best games of the year..

Stop hating on the Pats… I know that falls on deaf ears..

If KC wins the coin toss.. They very well could have won..

Thank god it wasn’t decided by the refs like the first game..

What about when Eric Berry mugged Gronkowski all the way down the field that wasn’t flagged?

Or the blatant offensive PI on KC on the 4th quarter TD that wasn’t called?

Or the bogus PI calls that were flagged on JC Jackson?

Did stop watching after any of those?

That was a break even with two things that happened in that play. There was a blatant DPI committed against Edelman that wasnt called. And then there was a non existent roughing that did get called. The outcome was the same either way, but it would have been more reassuring had they flagged the right penalty.

  101. As a lifelong Cowboys fan, I tip my hat to Brady and Belichick. They’re one tough SOB’s to beat.

  102. What’s the better word? Pathetic, sad, pompous? Yes words used to describe the worst fans in sports. Which is saying a lot when you look at Raiders fans. What the Patriots have accomplished in the past decade plus will probably never be repeated in professional sports. Sadly, when this becomes past tense, a lot of us will more remember the utterly putrid statements from Patsy fans more then the play of the players and coaches.

  103. J K says:

They won because of an unforgivable offside and because they won the coin toss. Also got a huge break when Chris Jones left with an injury.
    ————————————————————————————
It is true that these games always come down to just a handful of plays, but the reality is that KC was totally dominated in the first half and fell behind by 14. If they had played even a mediocre first half they would have won.

  104. Pats beat a great team…The Chiefs have a great future. If they win that coin toss, there is probably a different outcome. What a nail-biter! That said,BLITZ FOR SIX is on! GO PATS!!!

Thank GOD that I don’t have to hear about how “great” Pat Mahomes is for the next 2 weeks. That is what would happen, the media wouldn’t bother with Jared Goff, but Mahones is a black QB, the media’s preferred type of QB.

    ———

Ridiculous. The reason the media raves about Mahomes is because the kid was special this year. He makes great throws from everywhere, in every position, and nothing seems to faze him.

    This from a Patriots fan.

  107. As a Chiefs’ fan, let me sum this whole game up for you:

A fatally flawed veteran head coach who doesn’t understand how to manage a clock and who has no killer instinct and a generational QB in his first year as a starter lost to the best QB/HC combo in NFL history. As a guy who has questioned the refs all year, I can say I don’t think they could have possibly called a more fair game.

Andy Reid vs Bill Belichick is: Michael Jordan vs, like, maybe Larry Nance? I don’t know, It’s like Jordan versus some guy some people thought was good but he wasn’t really to those who understand how flawed he is. Brady vs a 23 year old Mahomes is exactly what you think it would be. Like 18 year old LeBron against Kobe would be the best comparison.

Reid will never win a Super Bowl. Philly fans were spot on. And I don’t even hate NE anymore. This game just made me get over it. They want it more, they work harder and they just make it happen. They go above and beyond. That’s why they win.

Former Cheaters linebacker Ted Johnson, in an interview with USA TODAY in 2005:

“Every now and then I’d get a sheet, one hour before the game, with a list of audibles for our opponent. I don’t know how, but they just showed up.”

    —————————-
I’ll bet he did. I don’t know if any NFL team that doesn’t have a scouting division that studies upcoming opponents and creates reports of their observations. Every defense gets a briefing that includes any trends, tells, giveaways that have been observed in an upcoming opponent. Its totally legal, I believe they call it competition.

  110. People that are making excuses about bad penalty calls and overtime rules forget that those calls went BOTH ways. As for overtime,if you think the rules are unfair, then stop the offense and get the ball back. Either team could have won this game. The teams were that evenly matched. Sore losers galore on the boards tonight. If you hate the Patriots, then your team should eliminate them. Simple as that.

  111. Some things about this game that I figured would happen –

    1) New England would come out swinging for the fences – They DID
    2) Patrick Mahones would be overwhelmed by the NE Defense – He WAS for 3 Qtrs
    3) Andy Reid would choke once again in a big game – He DID by not using 3 TO’s in OT
    4) If KC had any chance to win NE’s Defense would have to collapse – They ALMOST did, they were GASSED by the 4th QTR
    5) IF it went to OT & NE got the ball first Belichick would go for the throat – He DID

  112. Funny, I see guys here grousing about calls that favored the Pats, and I see guys here grousing about calls that favored the Chiefs. The refs certainly had a few things they got wrong. But they went both ways so really things cancelled each other out so that in the end the refs were not a factor either way. Such is football.

This was a seriously goid footbal game hard fought by two great teams.

  113. Make all the excuses you want, but if you actually watched the game, the Pats dominated the Chiefs the entire first half, dominated a team that was supposed to be special in the first half…

And then there are the folks who, for some special/unknown reason, forgot that the Chiefs lost to the Pats during the regular season. Why did you expect another outcome?

    Rams will be easy pickin’s

  114. Raiders fan I hope you always remember…always…gruden remembers…thats why he is coaching again…for another shot at the Patriots..yeah good luck with that.I wrote to the raiders but since they do not have a home address I guess my letter is still floating in outside space.

Look at these comments. Why would any of you even bother talking to a Patriots fan? They just punched a ticket to another Superbowl and they’re STILL talking about “haters” and “crybabies” and “snowflakes”. Uggh. That’s why people root against your team, because of your actions in public, more than anything else.

It matters how you present yourself. It really does.

    ——————————
So you are saying they should not do posts like this one?

  117. Not another Super Bowl with that old man Tom Brady and “Mr. Personality” Bill Belichick.. So tired of the Pats.. Bob Kraft with his blue colored, white collar, “Hey Ice Cream!!” dress shirts, a week of Belichick playing “top that stoic response” and Brady, soon to be requesting an ADA accommodation for a mobility scooter so he can play till he’s 60.. Please Rams/McVay/Goff put this team out of their misery.. And fan’s misery..

  118. Dee Ford lost the game for the Chiefs by lining up offsides on a game-clinching interception. No situational awareness.

And then the KC defense let the Pats have the middle of the field open for pass plays? KC doesn’t belong in the SB.

  119. Great game by both teams. If anything, I felt that the penalty calls favored my Chiefs. The ONLY calls against us were irrefutable…offsides, Illegal formation etc. The Patriots had two huge PI’s called against them and didn’t get a single PI call go their way…the illegal pick on the big pass in the 4th Quarter that freed up Watkins was criminal!…but we still couldn’t pull it off..next year we’ll be back.

  120. Now, back to reality.

Congrats, Chiefs. You had a great season. Mahomes had an incredible season and he played great in the playoffs, including today.

It was a great game between two great teams.

You people better think about this long and hard.

You are witnessing history, the likes of which you’ll probably never see again.

This will be their 4th trip to the Super Bowl in a 5-year span.
They’ve gone to 8 straight AFC Championship Games?
This will be Tom Brady’s 9th trip to the Super Bowl in 18 years.
The Patriots own all of the big records regarding the playoffs and Super Bowls.

People will talk about this team and their accomplishments for ages to come.

So, appreciate this while it’s still here. Someday, you might be saying something like, “Remember that year when the Patriots played against the Falcons in the Super Bowl and were down 28-3 at halftime?”.

Everything this team has done will be “the good ole days” sometime in the future.

    ___________________________

You are presenting YOURSELF as all three of those things. That matter. It really does.

  122. Only New England knows how to beat the refs. A 15 td touch the qb penalty…..a return fumble that should of been a Td….An interception by the Chiefs and then offsides when they could off sealed it…lol.good one. Refs hand gift another game to goodell and kraft. The set up is on!!!!!

  123. The call was ridiculous, but the really ridiculous part of the call was the flag came from the guy standing behind the play, who had absolutely no view of what happened.

Either they don’t call a penalty that is completely obvious, like in the Saints-Rams game, or they call one like this one, that wasn’t a penalty at all.

  124. Brady was not good in this game – he had some really awful throws. If it were not for one lining up offsides play, Brady would have lost. Only because he is in a system that breeds cheating is he in this discussion as a GOAT. He is a system player who could not succeed anywhere else.

  125. If only Brees had a chance in OT…really you actually said that out loud to yourself and then wrote it down…..I guess abc mouse does not help everyone…you want to change the rule to suit you…you so special..now get on your bus.

  126. Is there really any doubt who is the GOAT – and now dont start this bs about all the cheating and deflategate etc etc – the guy just plays football the way it needs to be played. Better than Montana, better than Manning, Elway, Young Brees, Favre,Marino, – simply the best.
    ________________________________________________________________________________

    1. Deflategate and Spygate happened. It’s not BS.
    2. The Pats won today because they controlled the line of scrimmage, and their run set up their pass. Why does Brady get all the credit for that?
    3. There is no way Brady is better than those other QB’s. Take him away from Belichick, and he isn’t nearly the same. His career may have ended years ago.

  127. Patriots doubled the offensive plays ran: 94 to 47 for the Chiefs.
Patriots doubled the first downs: 36 to 18 for the Chiefs.
Patriots more than doubled the time of possession: 44 minutes to KC’s 21
Patriots almost doubled the total yardage gained: 524 to 290

And Bob Sutton thinks his defensive schemes are designed to wear out the opposition. I wonder if Andy Reid or anyone else (like Clark Hunt or Veach) might notice where the Chiefs major weakness is at. They only won two games this year which weren’t right down to the wire, white knucklers.

The fact that they lost 5 games, none by more than 7 points, doesn’t make this a win for KC.

Congratulations Patriots. Represent the AFC well in the SB

  128. Patriot Hater really are a bunch of crybabies arent they?

Stew in the Patriots victory tonight cupcakes. Sleep well 🙂

  129. 1. Yes it is, per the second circuit court of appeals
    2. We can all listen to Marshall Faulk cry for 2 weeks
    3. Go Pats
    4. The rest of the league is a joke #fixed

  130. Yes I lost money on KC tonight. But you really can’t ignore the dreadful officiating. Mahomes legit got smacked in the face deep in his own territory on a big 3rd down play….NO CALL. Patriots driving late already into KC territory on a big 3rd down & THE CALL IS MADE that Brady got hit in the face/head. The referee BEHIND Brady made the call, a play he could not POSSIBLY SEE. Replay from the front view shows that Brady WASN’T EVEN TOUCHED.

Love the NFL & always will. LOVE IT. But man, sure seems like the league at least tries to write the narrative they want going into the SuperBowl….by activating crooked officials. Tape doesn’t lie. And the LA no call? Yikes. Bad day.

    1. Yes they were BS. The league admitted in federal court under oath that Deflategate was BS and I refuse to acknowledge spygate as cheating for too many reason to list here.
    2. Why does it matter? 🙂
    3. See response 2. 🙂 I like dealing with reality instead of what if’s and we know for a fact that Belichick AND Brady have now won half of all AFC Championships played since Brady became starter. Let. That. Sink. In.

    Toodles!

    🙂

  132. Officiating was terrible, but KC was far more ‘protected’ by the Refs then NE.

KC got away with many PI calls that should of gone against them.

In the end KC had only 4 Flags against them and NE had 6 against them.

The best thing that happened for both sides was that the Game ended in a tie 31-31 and went to OT

NE won because KC Defense could not make a crucial STOP.

Just be fair though. KC Jackson’s DPI calls were awful in favor of Chiefs no? Obvious pick play for TD no call, important for chiefs no? Not one DPI or holding call against Chiefs, strange?

And yes, the RTP on Brady was bogus, but the real flag should have been Edelman getting mugged on his route the same play, go watch reply. Still a flag, wrong penalty.
