Over 200 riders pedalled through the thoroughfares of the city early on Sunday morning to spread the message of oil conservation and the benefits of cycling among the general public.
Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd. (MRPL) organised the rally, Saksham Cycle Day, with taglines: Cycling reduces global warming; Cycling makes people healthy; Cycling saves energy; Cycling protects ecology and Cycling burns calories.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel flagged off the rally in front of Mangaluru City Corporation office at Lal Bagh in the presence of MRPL Managing Director M. Venkatesh, Group General Manager B.H.V. Prasad and others. Members from cycling clubs and students from schools and colleges, Scouts and Guides as well as general public participated in the rally.
