2019 VW Jetta Ticks Most Boxes But Is Less Engaging Than Predecessor

Volkswagen has launched the seventh-gen Jetta, focusing on cabin space, fuel economy and value for the money. For the most part, they have succeeded, says Consumer Reports.

The interior is nicely put together with great ergonomics and has a standard 6.5-inch touchscreen display with smartphone integration. The front seats are mostly comfortable on long journeys and the rear is quite roomy. Visibility is good all around, so what you pay is basically what you get when it comes to Volkswagen’s new compact sedan.

The new Jetta’s suspension does a fairly good job at coping with most road bumps, thus offering a rather comfortable ride.

Even the 1.4-liter turbocharged petrol engine does a good job at making it feel energetic. It has 147 hp (149 PS / 110 kW) and 184 lb-ft (249 Nm) of torque and can be mated to either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed auto. The auto shifts smoothly yet tends to select a higher gear to save fuel, and this gives the driver the impression that performance is somewhat lethargic.

Another downside of owning the 2019 Jetta is that the steering is not as responsive as one might expect, especially if they drove the old model. Also, the quality of some interior plastics is not up to par – but for further details, as well as the verdict, you can check out CR’s review right below.
