Two H1N1 deaths reported in January

AHMEDABAD: At least 60 cases of swine flu have been recorded in the first 20 days of January.
Two deaths were reported over two days — January 19 and 20. Officials said that between January 9 and 17, 33 cases were reported. The officials said that at present one person is on ventilator while another is being given oxygen. In all, seven people are under treatment.
The officials said that swine flu cases in the city declined in November and December 2018, but shot up this year. Moreover, there has been an increase in the number of typhoid and jaundice cases. On an average, seven cases of typhoid and jaundice were reported in the city in the first 19 days of January.
Figures released by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) reveal that 129 cases of jaundice and 125 cases of typhoid were reported in the first 19 days of January. Bhavin Solanki, the medical officer of the AMC, said that during the entire month of January in 2018, 172 cases of jaundice and 161 cases of typhoid were reported.
Moreover, chikungunya case are rising as well. In 31 days of January 2018, six cases were reported. But this year, in the first 19 days of January, five cases have been reported.
The data revealed that five cases of dengue have been reported in the city so far this year. From January 12 and 19, no fresh case of dengue was reported. AMC officials said Rs 5.56 lakh in fines was collected from individuals for not tackling their unhygienic surroundings.
AMC officials have so far gathered 34 samples of various eatables suspected to be adulterated. Thirteen samples were found to be safe. The rest are being investigated.
