AHMEDABAD: The Vastrapur area turned out to be a fertile ground for burglars, with police sat idle. Thieves broke into three apartments at Takshshila Apartments near Mansi Circle and stole valuables worth more than Rs 18 lakh on Sunday.
Three burglaries occurred between 5pm and 9pm on Sunday at Takshshila Apartments, just 1km away from Judges’ Bungalows, where there was a great deal of police movement in the same period.
According to the FIR filed at Vastrapur police station on Monday, the burglars removed the latch of the door to apartment number D/4 and entered. They made off with ornaments, Indian and foreign currency, worth a total of Rs 16 lakh from the house, which belongs to Salu Nihalani. They also stole Rs 1.50 lakh cash and 1,000 Australian dollars from house number D-42, which is owned by Bhushan Balchandra Oza. Total value of the money stolen from Oza’s house is estimated to be Rs 2 lakh.
Nihalani, who filed complaint with Vastrapur police on Monday, stated that she had locked her house on Sunday evening and went to a hospital in the Sola area of the city where her husband is admitted. When her daughter and sister-in-law went home, they found the latch removed and the house ransacked. They then called Nihalani and told her about the burglary.
PSI D V Valani of Vastrapur police said the burglars stole valuables from apartment number D-42 and D-4. They also broke the door of apartment number D-82 but did not find anything. They also unsuccessfully tried to break into house number D-83, added Valani.
