The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence on Sunday apprehended a person at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and seized from him over 1.96 kg in gold bars.
According to the DRI, the accused had allegedly hidden the gold bars in his shoes. He was intercepted upon arrival from Indore by flight 6E-648 around 12.40 a.m.
The DRI said hat the accused was found carrying foreign-marked gold bars which they valued at ₹66.27 lakh.
It also said that preliminary investigation revealed that the gold was picked up by the accused from an accomplice who was travelling on a domestic leg of the flight.
The DRI said that this accomplice was travelling on a 'fabricated' Aadhaar card and under a fake name.
