GURUGRAM: The MCG has prepared the detailed project report (DPR) for three multi-level parking lots which will be built at Sadar Bazar to decongest the market and nearby areas in old Gurugram.
The plan is to construct three nine-storey buildings — one on the plot behind the post office in Sadar Bazar, the second on the plot behind the veterinary hospital, and the third in Kaman Sarai. One of these buildings will also house a shopping complex, besides the parking lot.
The multi-level parking lots will be built on the same format as the one behind Huda City Centre in Sector 29. Besides, roads and footpaths in the market will also be repaired as part of this de-congestion project.
However, once the work on the project starts, the entry of vehicles into the market area will be restricted.
On Sunday, MCG Commissioner Yashpal Yadav inspected the sites where the three buildings will be constructed. All the chosen plots are about one acre in area.
The nine floors of the parking lot will include three floors under the ground and six above the ground.
According to MCG sources, the construction will be carried out in the manner Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) built the multi-level parking lot in Sector 29. The parking lots will be based on modular technology so that more vehicles can be incorporated in the same.
The project will be executed on a public-private partnership (PPP) model and its estimated cost is Rs 12 crore. Sources revealed that the DPR had been sent to the directorate of urban local bodies, Haryana and its approval was expected before the end of March, this year.
MCG’s plan is to start work by repairing pedestrian pathways in the market. The work will likely start by March and no vehicles will be allowed in the area during the renovation. After that, the actual construction of the three parking lots will begin.
“We have already submitted the DPR and are waiting for administrative approval to go ahead with the project. Once we get all sanctions, the work on the parking lots will be completed within 18 months,” said Yadav.
Sadar Bazar, the city’s oldest and busiest market, remains a popular destination for most residents.
Located next to the main bus stand in the old city, the market is popular because, unlike the malls and the supermarkets, products there are cheaper and there is more variety.
There are parking lots for visitors to the market but those remain mostly empty due to poor maintenance or distance from the main hub. Instead, visitors park their vehicles wherever they find space, leading to chaos and congestion.
