CBI seeks govt sanction to prosecute Chidambaram
TNN | Jan 22, 2019, 04:37 ISTNEW DELHI: CBI has approached the government seeking sanction to prosecute former finance minister P Chidambaram in the INX Media case as it prepares to file a chargesheet against him.
The agency had last year arrested his son Karti in the case and had claimed that Chidambaram too was a "suspect" as he had approved the Foreign Investment Promotion Board proposal of INX Media, which was owned by Indrani and Peter Mukherjea at the time. It has been alleged that Karti asked the Mukherjeas for a bribe of $1 million.
Chidambaram has been chargesheeted by the CBI in the Aircel-Maxis case and faces arrest. Officials said they want to arrest Chidambaram but he has regularly got relief from courts.
