HYDERABAD: Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has directed officials to improve roads in the state. After irrigation projects, top priority is being given to roads, including highways, he said at a review meeting at Pragathi Bhavan on Saturday.

KCR, who reviewed roads and highways with officials of the roads and buildings (R&B) department on Saturday, instructed them that all the 12,751 gram panchayats, including the newly-formed ones, in the state should have bituminous treatment (BT) road facility in the next two years.

He directed the R&B officials to prepare reports on existing road condition and an action plan to make them “look like a mirror”. He said the budget allocation would be made for it.

After formation of Telangana, the state could obtain national highways at a record level and suggested that the principal secretary, R&B, do a conference with all engineers to come up with details of roads, their present condition and action to be taken. He said all the MLAs and other people’s representative should constantly monitor the progress of road repair.

Meanwhile, KCR directed the officials to pay compensation immediately to farmers who lost their land for construction of canals for the Kaleshwaram. On MLA Vittal Reddy’s request for compensation to farmers of Mudhole, KCR responded positively.
