Gujarat to achieve 22% growth rate in GSDP by 2022: CM Vijay Rupani

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Friday said that the state's Gross State Domestic Production (GSDP) growth will remain at 22 per cent, which is more than its current GSDP growth of 10 per cent. Rupani was addressing a gathering at a seminar on Gujarat's growth story and its forseeable future during the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2019.

Rupani further said, "Gujarat's growth curve has been seeing a steep rise. The state's GSDP has grown from 1.2 lakh crores in 2001-02 to 11 lakh crores in 2016-17, and will rise 4 folds to 40 lakh crores, by 2030. Thus, the growth rate in the year 2022 will be 22 per cent. The manufacturing sector alone is set to contribute a staggering 30 per cent to the state GSDP by 2030."

The seminar was titled as Gujarat's Sprint to 2022. The chief minister presented the under-progress development projects in Gujarat like Dholera and Mandal Bechraji SIR, Dahej PCPIR, GIFT City, DFC, DMIC, smart cities, Metro and Bullet train projects, international airports, tourism spots such as the Statue of Unity(SoU).

The chief minister also emphasised on the rise in standards of living of people and the many opportunities for young entrepreneurs.

He said, "The per capita income, now, will increase by 3.5 times to 5.2 lakh by 2030. If you have a business idea, Gujarat is the place to be in. From start-ups to small and large businesses, Gujarat has opened its arms for everyone who wants to contribute to the growth of our people. To the youth of today, do the work of your choice and make the nation proud."

The CM also added that the state has been a power surplus state and will soon become a drinking water surplus state with the help of desalination plants and best water management technologies.

CM Rupani floated a slogan for the state, "A Gujarat free of poverty, A Gujarat full of opportunities, A Gujarat as safe as a mother's lap."

Deputy chief minister Nitin Patel, who was present at the summit, said that the state government has been maintaining best balance in its budget between expenditure and earnings. He also said that the government had been always inclined towards enhancing facilities for poor class of society.

In the seminar, CMD of Zydus Cadila Group Pankaj Patel who was also a speaker said that government needed to develop health care audit system in state to gauge consumers' satisfaction in facilities. Kiran Sethi from Riverside School put stress over skill promoting pedagogy in education. While the chairman in Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (SRFDCL) proposed Eastern Corridor of the project to be developed as hub for IT, innovations and start-up in near future.

The MD and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited Kenichi Ayukawa and chief representative of JICA India Katsuo Matsumoto talked on their ongoing projects in Gujarat in the seminar.
