Jimmy Buffett dropped the mic after he performed the national anthem ahead of Sunday’s NFC Championship Game in New Orleans — but not everybody was impressed.
Buffett, who is a lifelong New Orleans Saints fan, posted a clip of the moment to his Instagram, captioning the post, “wonderful honor – thank you @saints @nfl.” He added various emojis, including the American flag.
In the video, Buffett finishes the anthem before lifting his arm out and dropping his microphone on the field.
Earlier in the day, the “Margaritaville” singer posted a snap of his rehearsal on Instagram, captioning the photo with the lyrics to the national anthem. “And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave Over the land of the free and the home of the brave 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 #rehearsal #50yardline.”
“Good morning from New Orleans!” Buffett wrote of another photo from the day. “Otw to the Dome for rehearsal. who dat!”
NFL fans posted on Twitter to respond to Buffett’s performance — and many weren’t so happy with his rendition of the anthem.

“Wow. One of the worst renditions of all time. Awful,” one user wrote.
Another chimed in, “Are Jimmy Buffet [sic] concerts as bad as his national anthem?”
“I love Jimmy Buffett but that was just a little rough,” another fan tweeted. “But that mic drop though.”
The NFC Championship Game sees the Los Angeles Rams play against the New Orleans Saints. The winner of the game will go on to play at the 53rd Super Bowl on Feb. 3 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

This year’s Super Bowl halftime show will feature Maroon 5, Big Boi and rapper Travis Scott, who agreed to perform at the event on the condition that the NFL would join him in a joint donation to a charitable cause. In partnership with the league, Scott will make a $500,000 contribution to Dream Corps, a non-profit organization that champions social justice.
Super Bowl 53 will air Sunday, Feb. 3 at 6:30 p.m. ET. on CBS.
