Truck runs over man in Burrabazar

KOLKATA: One person was killed and a senior police officer escaped with minor injuries in two separate accidents on Saturday.
The first accident took place around 12.40am on Saturday, when a 31-year-old man was run over by a truck in the Burrabazar area in central Kolkata. Police said that Md Kamre Alam, a resident of Nanpur in Bihar, was crossing the road at the Rabindra Sarani and Tarachand Dutta Street intersection, when he was hit by a truck that was speeding to avoid traffic-restriction rules set to be imposed in a couple of hours in the city for Trinamool's rally at Brigade. The victim was taken to the Medical College and Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
In the other accident, a bus brushed past DC (DD) of Bidhannagar Police Avaru Rabindranath near Central Park. Avaru was on duty at the spot as hundreds had gathered at Central Park to attend the Trinamool rally. The bus driver was nabbed.
