3 panchayat officials suspended for dereliction of duty in Salem

The move comes after district collector Rohini R Bhajibhakare made a surprise visit to Pannapatty, Kanjanaickenpatty and Kanavaipudur panchayats and met villagers to know whether panchayat officials were carrying out their duties properly.
She also inspected the civil works, including drainage construction, potable water pipe connections and erecting electricity poles in the panchayats.
She found sluggishness in the civil works and immediately held inquiry with the panchayat secretaries. Following this, she issued suspension orders to all the three panchayat secretaries. “The orders have been served to them,” the collector said.
The collector has warned all the panchayat secretaries in the district to work with their villagers to address their basic needs. “Strict action will be initiated against errant officials,” she said.
