Bihar: Web portal launched for govt schoolteachers

PATNA: Emphasising on the need to ensure quality teaching in government schools, Bihar Education Project Council (BEPC) state project director Sanjay Singh on Sunday appreciated the endeavour of the teachers for taking the responsibility to strengthen the education system in the state.
Addressing the teachers at the launch of web portal www.teachersofbihar.org and an e-magazine ‘Teachers of Bihar’, the BEPC official said, “The initiative taken by the teachers would bring all the teachers of government schools on one platform to share their innovative ideas, teaching methodologies and can adopt the best teaching practices, which will help to bring about further reform in the education system. It is like a digital classroom for teachers to learn how to give the kids a lesson in an effective manner and to prepare their lesson plan. The education department will extend full support to this initiative,” he said.
He also urged the teachers to join the web portal and make best possible use of it. The portal and the e-magazine was jointly inaugurated by BEPC project director and director, primary education, Arvind Kumar Verma here on Sunday.
Unicef education specialist Pramila Manoharan, who was also present at the event, has extended support to the initiative.
The web portal was designed and operated by the government schoolteachers including Shiv Kumar, cluster resource centre coordinator of Bikram and Patna Manoj Kumar Tripathy, headmaster of Utkramit Madhya Vidyalaya, Bheldumra, Ara. Shiv Kumar said it is a portal of teachers, by the teachers and for the teachers of Bihar.
Talking about the important feature of web portal, Shiv said, “The layout of the portal, includes a social media interface for the teachers, an online platform to share innovations and best practices, a content repository along with relevant links, a section for interesting periodical activities, an audio-video library of e- contents of syllabus, a menu of educational songs and campaigns, motivational videos and links to relevant websites of state education department and ministry of human resource development.”
Manoj said this portal intends to be a social media interactive page for the academically oriented teachers and individuals, a knowledge-sharing platform, a thought-catalyst, a stage for recognizing and appreciating good work. “Each moth we will select the best teacher of the month for their exemplary work. Teachers and students can share their poems, write-ups and essays on this web portal,” he said adding that a section would be dedicated to students to get all the learning material.
