‘Women have taken giant strides in all fields’

Dharwad: Women are no more confined to kitchens and they have proved that besides being good homemakers they can also make giant strides in other fields, said special deputy commissioner of Bengaluru North district Sushma Godbole.
Speaking after inaugurating the valedictory of the golden jubilee celebrations and the Alumni Association of K E Board’s Shrimati Kamalabai Narayanrao Kabbur Girls’ High School here on Saturday, the IAS officer said girls should make best use of the opportunities provided by the government and should have the determination to achieve something in life. The determination should be supported by hard work, she said.
Hailing the role of teachers in shaping the personality of children, Sushma said many women were doing yeomen service to society by taking up teaching profession. However, everyone should continue to learn from classrooms as well as the outside world on day to day basis to broaden one’s vision. Sushma recalled the role of KNK Girls High School in producing luminaries out of students from rural and economically weaker background.
Former director of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences K P Putturaya said the aim of education is to create a society comprising people of character. Knowledge, science and philosophy should be the integral parts of education.
Several past students met each other after a gap of 40-50 years at the programme and went down the memory lane.
Karnatak Education Board president Ashok Chachadi presided over. The organizers felicitated retired heads and teachers of the school. Dr Anand Kabbur and K E Board vice president Shrikant Neglur were also present.
Head Mistress Sujata Basur welcomed the gathering. G R Bhat introduced the guests. Chairman of school governing council Krishna Kulkarni explained the path traversed by the school over the past 50 years. Meera Navalli proposed a vote of thanks.
